No fake love here: Drake is Spotify’s most streamed artist of the year

The onslaught of 2016 superlatives has begun, giving families and friends something to argue about other than politics. Included in these lists of accolades is an artist everyone’s listening to, even if their 2016 release was a tad underwhelming. We’re talking about Drake, of course, who’s just been named Spotify’s most streamed artist for the second year in a row. The Canadian rapper’s music totaled 4.7 billion streams, more than twice as many as last year. It helped that Drake had an actual album out this year—his fourth, Views, accounted for over half of the nearly 5 billion streams. His Wizkid and Kyla collaboration, “One Dance,” which was released ahead of the album, picked up 960 million streams alone (and deservedly so).

Justin Bieber took second place this year, and Kanye West picked up the No. 5 spot (it’s a good thing he didn’t stick to that Tidal exclusive, we guess). Rihanna came in third overall, and also continued her Spotify streak as the most streamed female artist of the year.
