Even though he is a certified Strange Person, Joaquin Phoenix won’t be getting his Ph.D. in strange-ology. Months after we reported that he was up for the part, Deadline says that talks have ended between Marvel and the Inherent Vice star for the part of Steven Vincent Strange, ex-neurosurgeon and current Sorcerer Supreme. Because the Internet abhors a vacuum, rumors have already begun swirling around that Ethan Hawke is up for the part, but everyone seems to agree that’s bullshit (or, as Deadline more tactfully puts it, “speculation gone wild”). That means it’s back to the Orb of Agamotto for Marvel, which is reportedly gearing up for pre-production at the UK’s Pinewood Studios, presumably so it can visit the furry friend it made filming Guardians Of The Galaxy there last summer.
