No wallet chains, flyers, fun allowed at the Foo Fighters’ 20th anniversary show
While Dave Grohl breaking his leg and still finishing out a show in Sweden was a boon to rock ‘n’ roll fans who wanted to make memes about how much cooler the Foo Fighters frontman is than any other pop artist out there, it also left the future of the Foo Fighters’ upcoming tour uncertain.
The Foo-faithful needn’t worry, though, as the band announced that they’ll still be playing their 20th anniversary show this July 4th at RFK Stadium in Grohl’s hometown of Washington D.C. The bill includes an eclectic mix of musicians including Buddy Guy, Joan Jett And The Blackhearts, Trombone Shorty, and LL Cool J, but it also features an eclectic mix of items that are not allowed at the show. Stereogum has a list of the prohibited items.
At first glance, the inclusion of wallet chains might imply that this list was made in 1999, but provisions banning selfie sticks and “weird weapons that may have been used on the show Vikings” provide evidence that it is, in fact, recent. The list features the usual suspects when it comes to preventing from anyone having too good of a time—coolers, fireworks, animals, Frisbees—as well as a few odd, probably joke items like uncured meats and copies of Boy’s Life magazine. But most interesting is that flyers, stickers, and posters of any kind are not allowed, implying either that Dave Grohl is not as supportive of up-and-coming artists as he says he is or that he’s just anti-litter, as all that shit is going to end up on the ground.
The Fourth of July blowout kicks off the Foo Fighters’ summer tour, which, at this point, appears to be going forward as planned. Tour dates are below.
