Noah Baumbach has been secretly directing an animated movie about a dachshund

Noah Baumbach's latest film Frances Ha is one of the best reviewed of the year so far, but the director isn’t resting on his laurels, currently shooting While We’re Young—which has also been in development for years—with Greenberg star Ben Stiller, Amanda Seyfried, and Naomi Watts. But along with that live-action project, he’s also apparently getting into animation. An adaptation of Berkeley Breathed’s illustrated book series Flawed Dogs has been in development for a few years at DreamWorks (and still doesn’t have a scheduled release date), and according to Bleeding Cool, Baumbach has been covertly directing the project along with his other work. The director has gotten involved with the studio before—notably doing rewrites on Madagascar 3: Most Wanted—and he also co-wrote the screenplay for Fantastic Mr. Fox with Wes Anderson, so he’s got some experience in the medium. Flawed Dogs is still a few years off at least, but soon enough Baumbach’s films won’t all be about flighty young artists or middle-aged men in crisis.
