The Great British Bake Off (or The Great British Baking Show, as it‘s known in the U.S.) is a reliably charming and soothing hour of television. (Seriously, if ASMR has never clicked for you, give listening to British people fussing over bread a try.) But the show’s been experiencing some upheaval behind the scenes as of late, with judge Mary Berry and hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc departing the show after it was announced that Bake Off would be moving from BBC One to Channel Four in the U.K., a move that would bring commercial breaks to the show for the first time.
Now, though, things are going back to normal—as normal as anything involving The Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding can be, anyway. Fielding has been named as the show’s new co-host, alongside comedian and quiz-show host Sandi Toksvig. In a statement, Fielding says, “I’ve always loved brightly colored cakes and Sandi Toksvig so this is a dream come true for me! It’s basically the double.” Toksvig returns the compliment, saying, “It is an extraordinary honor to be part of this national treasure of a show. Noel Fielding is one of the nicest guys in show business. The first time I met him I felt like I had met a rather wayward cousin whose take on the world made me laugh. The only down side is that he has much better dress sense than I do.”
Fielding and Toksvig will be joined by returning host Paul Hollywood and new host Prue Leith, a restauranteur and food writer who has been a judge on the BBC’s Great British Menu since 2006. We’re feeling much better already. Now, who wants to talk about regional scones?
