Noel Gallagher is not happy about albums coming out on Fridays
Noel Gallagher is skeptical about a lot of things, like running, EDM, and Tidal, to name only a few. As of today, add to this hate list the global album release date, a newly implemented music industry rule which dictates that all records, regardless of territory, will hit stores on the Friday of every week. (Previously, records were released on Tuesdays in the U.S., and Mondays in the U.K.)
“Says who? I run my own fucking record label, I’ll release mine on a Wednesday, just to be fuckin’ contrary. Friday? No, no, no, no, no, no, no,” the irate Gallagher said in a recent NME video interview. He went on to blame “focus groups” for the shift, muttering that “the world’s gone fucking mad,” before adding a typically pointed zinger at the end for good measure: “Unfortunately, it won’t make shit albums any better, will it? They’ll still sound shit on fucking Friday.” Hard to argue with that logic.
In a separate interview, Gallagher also wished for several EDM major players to get off his proverbial lawn: “I don’t know anything about Avicii. I don’t wish to know anything about Avicii. It sounds like a fucking artist from the Renaissance period.” Watch both screeds below.
