The nominees for the prestigious British music award the Barclaycard Mercury Prize were announced today, Pitchfork reports, and as usual the list puts our piddly American music awards to shame. A nominating body made up of critics and industry picked the contenders, who will square off in a show broadcast on BBC Two and BBC 6 Music on Sept. 6. Here are the nominees:
