Not surprisingly, PETA really, really loves Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
Along with taking naked celebrity photos, PETA’s favorite downtime activity is attending Hollywood movie premieres to shout slogans at confused actors—a commitment to protesting films deemed unfriendly to animals that’s recently extended to even the computer-animated Rango, due to an “ill-conceived and irresponsible” PetSmart promotional campaign offering discounts on pet reptiles. But there’s been no such ire directed at the similarly digital Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes: While PETA members did attend the premiere to bombard confused actors with slogans, they were friendly slogans, like “Apes Love CGI,” celebrating the fact that no live apes were used at all. PETA also gave the film its official seal of approval and even bestowed upon Apes director Rupert Wyatt the rare Proggy Award for animal friendliness. “Apes are the heroes of this film, and humans are the villains,” PETA crowed in a statement, praising a movie where, at long last, the apes kill the humans and take over the world, like out of some beautiful, beautiful dream. You guys in PETA do realize that, in this scenario, these super-intelligent, pissed-off apes would rip your face off, right? Does their moral victory outweigh the reality of your face being eaten? Just putting a hypothetical out there. [via THR]
