Not to be outdone, ABC kills 9 shows in a single afternoon

Apparently sensing its reputation as TV’s most bloodthirsty butcher might be slipping this week, ABC has decided to step up and remind us all that nobody kills TV shows like ABC. The network announced a whopping nine series cancellations this afternoon, and, while some of these kill orders were more surprising than others—nobody was expecting Marvel’s Inhumans to make a sudden, desperate dash for life—the sheer volume of scheduled destruction is still pretty impressive

The butcher’s bill is a mix of old and new stuff; Designated Survivor and Quantico are both gone, for instance, although single-season entries like Zach Braff’s Alex, Inc. took the brunt of the damage. See also: the deaths of one-season shows The Crossing, The Mayor, Kevin (Probably) Saves The World, 10 Days In The Valley, and Deception. Some of these shows, like The Mayor, were already unofficially canceled earlier this year, but the network made the deaths final this afternoon. (That being said, ABC is still withholding judgment on its other Marvel show, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., leaving us continuing to guess how it’ll handle its ongoing connections to the wider MCU.)
