Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Wednesday, April 24. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

What We Do In The Shadows (FX, 10 p.m.): We cannot possibly do a better job of explaining why tonight’s WWDITS should be filed under can’t-miss than the first half of the lone sentence that comprises FX’s episode description. Here goes: “Laszlo, in bat form, is captured by Staten Island Animal Control and must be rescued.”

That, friends, is a damn good premise for an episode of a half-hour vampire comedy series. If you have doubts, go ahead and click away:

If the deal still needs sweetening, this episode was directed by someone who speaks fluent Shadows: Jackie van Beek, who played Deacon’s familiar, also named Jackie, in the film from which the series springs. Katie Rife will have to poke her fingers through the door of the carrier in which she’s been trapped to write her recap, but write it, she shall.

Regular coverage

Riverdale (The CW, 8 p.m.)
Jane The Virgin (The CW, 9 p.m.)

Wild card

Cobra Kai (YouTube Originals, 3:01 a.m., complete second season): The first season of Cobra Kai was an unexpected gem, a nostalgia-fueled revival series that asks, again and again, why we’re so interested in that stuff anyway. The second season promises more of the same, including emotional resonance, thoughtful performances, some delicious dojo rivalries, and of course, crane kicks.

Keep an eye out for Alex McLevy’s review.
