Now there’s an Instagram account that combines Meryl Streep and food
Who says that an actor has to choose between a career that’s in good taste and a career that tastes good? Certainly not the creator of Taste Of Streep, a two-month-old Instagram account that artfully combines images of Oscar-winning actress and national treasure Meryl Streep with pictures of food and beverages via the magic of Adobe Photoshop. It’s an eccentric premise, to be sure, but there is nothing random or haphazard about its execution. In each photo, the foodstuff is carefully, precisely matched to Streep’s hair, outfit, or makeup. Take, for instance, this portrait of Streep’s character in August: Osage County. Both her hair and clothing are the exact shade of brown as a Hostess cupcake.
Another entry in the Instagram account parodies Streep’s famous 1981 Rolling Stone cover photo by Annie Leibovitz. Here, the actress’ pasty white makeup is compared to the sour cream that might accompany a delicious quesadilla.
Streep’s scene-stealing turn in The Devil Wears Prada is another Taste of Streep favorite, inspiring this cannoli:
And this Girl Scout cookie:
The artist behind the account seems to have drawn special inspiration from Streep’s role as vain, aging actress Madeline “Mad” Ashton in Robert Zemeckis’ 1992 dark comedy Death Becomes Her. In one image, Ms. Ashton emerges, bleary-eyed, from a bowl of Froot Loops. In another, her white fur stole becomes the creme filling of a Hostess Twinkie. Both are ironic choices, since Streep’s character would never allow herself to indulge in sugary breakfast cereals or snack cakes.
