Now you can imagine Thom Yorke as an ass-kicking action star
Over the years, Thom Yorke has managed to reinvent his sound numerous times, but he’s never quite been able to completely reinvent his look. Though his hair and clothes may have changed since the early days of Radiohead, he’s always had the same slouched, slightly malnourished artist vibe about him, and so far that’s worked out okay. But what if—and just go along with us for a moment—Thom Yorke was a big, buff, ass-kicking action star? Luckily, we don’t just have wonder what this hypothetical fantasy scenario might look like, because an artist by the name of Butcher Billy has taken it upon himself to draw it for us.
Seeing Thom Yorke’s droopy visage attached to the impossibly muscular body of Conan The Barbarian probably isn’t something you thought you needed to see. Now, of course, you know better.
Who knew the lyrics to “Karma Police” would make such an enticing tagline to a Cobra-esque, high-octane action flick? It’s enough to make you forget that Thom Yorke’s head doesn’t quite fit his new, hyper-yolked body. The whole series, aptly titled “Thom Yorke: The Last Action Hero,” is right in Butcher Billy’s wheelhouse. A quick look at his catalogue proves that he specializes in these kind of unexpected pop culture mash-ups. Some of his previous works include Morrissey as the Incredible Hulk:
David Bowie as Luke Skywalker:
And some blink-and-you’ll-miss-it background art for season four of Black Mirror:
The other Thom Yorke prints (as well as some VHS box versions of them) are available to view here, along with the rest of Butcher Billy’s work. And if you desperately need these idiosyncratic wall decorations, they can be purchased here.
