Now you can watch Sterling Archer’s favorite movies

Whether it’s Herman Melville’s short story “Bartleby The Scrivener” or Animal Farm, Orwell’s allegorical novella about Stalinism, Archer has made enough literary references to make many English majors nerdily giggle. But the show has revealed its titular star’s taste in films as well, most often with Sterling Archer trying to emulate something he saw in one of his beloved Burt Reynolds movies. Luckily there is now an easy-to-use service for viewers who wish to follow in the footsteps of their favorite incredibly literate and semi-competent secret agent/drug smuggler/pirate king.

Vunify is an online service that allows users to list a selection of TV shows or movies. The service then looks at the various streaming options (Hulu, iTunes, YouTube, etc.) to see if they are available and creates a playlist to watch the whole thing. An enterprising soul has taken this nascent technology and put it to the best possible use by compiling all of Archer’s favorite films into its own playlist. That means the list mostly consists of Burt Reynolds films (Gator, Operation CIA), James Bond spy flicks (Casino Royale), and a few ‘80s blockbusters (Predator, Top Gun). The list appears far from complete, but hopefully other fans can contribute to build out the ultimate TV and film reference guide for a show that loves to reference such disparate worlds as Joseph Conrad books and The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift. And because it’s an example of the love of films shared by both Archer and Archer, this is just enough of a flimsy excuse to re-post the sincerely awesome recreation of Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” music video by the staff of the hit animated show.
