NYPD investigating commander who reportedly told unit to shoot 50 Cent "on sight"

A NYPD commander is currently under investigation for telling his unit to “shoot him on sight” if they saw Curtis Jackson, a.k.a. 50 Cent, at a NYPD-sanctioned boxing match last June, as as the New York Daily News reports. Although Deputy Inspector Emanuel Gonzalez reportedly tried to pass the comment off as a “joke” at the time, he was reported to NYPD Internal Affairs, presumably by members of the unit—one of whom anonymously tells the Daily News, “the inspector just said that at roll call … I’m like WTF.”

A month before the “joke,” Gonzalez filed an aggravated harassment complaint against Jackson, claiming that he was “in fear of his safety” after Jackson posted on his 50 Cent Instagram account about a $125 million lawsuit filed by Imran Jairam, the owner of Brooklyn hip-hop club Love and Lust. Jairam’s lawsuit, which is still ongoing, alleges that Gonzalez had attempted to shake down the club as part of a campaign of NYPD harassment, demanding that Jairam pay for 11 round-trip tickets to Puerto Rico and send money for a generator to the hurricane-ravaged island in October of 2017. Jairam denied the request. In June of 2018, Love & Lust lost its liquor license, and has since shut down.

And Gonzalez may well have another lawsuit coming his way, as Jackson posted on Twitter this morning that he was “consulting with [his] legal counsel” after reading the New York Daily News article mentioned above. A rep for the rapper/champagne-and-cryptocurrency mogul adds, “Mr. Jackson takes this threat very seriously and is consulting with his legal counsel regarding his options going forward. He is concerned that he was not previously advised of this threat by the NYPD and even more concerned that Gonzalez continues to carry a badge and a gun.”

Gonzalez remains on active duty as of this morning.
