We’re going to go ahead and file this under “Shit The Daily Mail Says,” but according to the London tabloid, Oasis singer Liam Gallagher has optioned Richard DiLello’s memoir The Longest Cocktail Party: An Insider’s Diary Of The Beatles, Their Million Dollar Apple Empire And Its Wild Rise And Fall with the intention of making a movie about the final, “stoned” years of the Fab Four that led to the band falling apart. DiLello served for several years in the press office of the group’s Apple Records, where he was witness to the “‘stoned conversations’ and hilarious observations of the Apple office’s open bar and ‘other accommodations ’ with regards to recreational activities on offer”—recreational activities that stars like James Taylor, Badfinger, and even Lauren Bacall took part in.
Naturally, the movie will also feature actors playing John, Paul, George, and Ringo, with casting put off until Gallagher can settle on a screenwriter and director—as well as secure the rights from the various lawyers and estates of these people to allow them to be portrayed doing drugs and bickering on screen, all using those famous Liam Gallagher diplomatic skills, and oh yeah, nail down the rights to use fucking Beatles songs. Do we sound skeptical? We’re a mite bit skeptical.
