Man With A Plan (CBS, 8:30 p.m.): Remember how much you (or people you know) liked Friends? Remember how much you (or people you know) liked Joey… but not Joey? Well, Showtime’s Episodes made sure to poke fun at all of that, but that’s not this. This is Man With A Plan, which is basically Kevin Can Wait but with Matt LeBlanc in the manly profession of contractor, as opposed to Kevin James in the manly profession of retired cop. “Golden Globe Award winner Matt LeBlanc stars as Adam, a contractor who starts spending more time with his three kids when his wife, Andi, goes back to work and discovers the truth all parents eventually realize—their little angels are maniacs.” This is what happens when dads start being present in their families’ lives. CBS is just trying to educate the masses. This show will last forever.
Mary + Jane (MTV, 10 p.m.): In lady business, this week’s Mary + Jane sees Jordan and Paige attending “MarijuanaCon,” which “finds Jordan partnering with Robbie in a competition; and Paige trying to make a connection with a cranky cancer patient.” Yes, MarijuanaCon is exactly what you think it is. Although, since this is Mary + Jane, we’re assuming there is some bizarre twist that makes MarijuanaCon a little more than just a MarijuanaCon. After all, the show already did “time travel” and vagina whispering, and we’re only in the first season.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! (ABC, 11:35 p.m.): President Barack Obama makes his return to Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight, and who knows—maybe he’ll make everything about this current election better. Fifteen more days, everyone. Fifteen more long, long days. It’s a good thing anything can happen when the President Of The United States of America is on late night.
Premieres and finales
Kevin Can Wait (CBS, 8 p.m.): The aforementioned Kevin Can Wait finds itself in the lead-in spot before tonight’s Man With A Plan series premiere, which explains its spot here. (New time slots deserve attention too, people.) Tonight, it’s “Beat The Parents,” which reminds everyone that CBS is still the house that Everybody Loves Raymond built: “Kevin and Donna are thrilled when their son, Jack, makes friends with a boy from school, Grayden (Graydon Peter Yosowitz), however, when Donna and Kevin don’t hit it off with Grayden’s arrogant father, Vic (Ray Romano), and his pushy wife, Brandi (Lindsay Broad), they set out to sabotage the boys’ new friendship.” So now we’re saying not everyone loves Raymond? This is confusing.
Food: Fact Or Fiction? (Cooking Channel, 10 p.m.): We’re still pretty sure food is fact, but if this is really the type of thing that needs to be asked for the second season in a row, then we’ll allow it.
Hotel Impossible (Travel Channel, 10 p.m.): The eighth season premiere of Travel Channel’s Hotel Impossible goes “Full Throttle In Sturgis,” as Anthony Melchiorri attempts to prepare three of Sturgis, South Dakota’s struggling hotels for hosting “hundreds of thousands of bikers.”
Hotel Impossible: Five Star Secrets (Travel Channel, 11/11:30 p.m.): Hotel Impossible may be in its eighth season, but it’s not the only Travel Channel show getting all the attention. Especially since there’s this spin-off right after it, with two back-to-back episodes for a series premiere. Say hello to this brave new world of hospitality-based impossibility—one where Anthony Melchiorri gets to enjoy hotels that need no help at all—with “5 Star NV: Vegas VIP” and “5 Star: One And Only Cabo.”
