Octavia Spencer and John Hawkes want to make a buddy cop movie together

Octavia Spencer and John Hawkes star as brother and sister in the upcoming film Small Town Crime, due out in theaters January 19, but at SXSW, they were happy to talk about other roles that might suit them. Having both been typecast throughout early parts of their careers, Spencer and Hawkes sat down with The A.V. Club to play a round of un-typecasting, in which we gave them a series of film roles, and they got to decide which person should play what. They had some great ideas for expanding the parts—though, as Hawkes wryly notes, they’re both actors, so they want to do all the roles themselves, first.
