Of course ABC wouldn’t object to a Star Wars show

Star Wars has a tricky relationship with television, a medium which has seen some of the brightest centers to the franchise’s universe as well as the planet furthest from it. But now that Disney owns Lucasfilm and all its assorted Star Wars holdings, the Empire’s synergistic spin-off gears are spinning more frequently, producing projects like Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels and Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales. But is that anything Disney’s broadcast arm would ever want to get involved with?

“As a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘yes,’” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said at the Television Critics Association press tour today. “We have had conversations with [Lucasfilm] and we will continue to have conversations with them. It would wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.” So not exactly a confirmation of a future Star Wars series at ABC, but still something that could happen eventually. Maybe if ABC and Dungey let go and trust their feelings, one day they’ll have a thermal exhaust port on their broadcast schedule that needs to be filled with the proton torpedo of a Star Wars show.
