Of course HBO’s The Young Pope will premiere on a Sunday

The Young Pope, a new 10-episode limited series that’s unfortunately not a Yahoo Serious vehicle, is set to debut on its Stateside home of HBO on January 15, keeping Sunday television holy.

Jude Law stars as Lenny Belardo, aka Pius XIII, the fictional first American Pope who will more than likely replace the sacramental wine with craft beer and the “body of Christ” with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Law’s character is said to be “shrewd and naïve, ironic and pedantic, primeval and cutting-edge, doubting and resolute, melancholy and ruthless,” which actually tells you absolutely nothing about the character.

But with Youth and The Great Beauty’s Paolo Sorrentino behind the camera and Diane Keaton and James Cromwell rounding out the cast, The Young Pope is probably going to be pretty good—and, hopefully for high-school religion teachers looking for a good time waster on Mondays, should feature considerably less cocaine use than Vinyl.

The Young Pope premieres January 15, 2017. It’s not religion, it’s HBO.
