Oh, hey, it looks like New Mutants might actually come out
Amid the dozens of new superhero movies popping out of the Hollywood creativity pile by the day, you’d be forgiven for letting one slip through the cracks—even if it’s as weird a one as Josh Boone’s New Mutants, i.e., “What if we stuck a bunch of famous young folks in a haunted house and gave them mutant powers?” It’s been nearly two years since Fox released the first trailer for the film, a period that’s included calls for re-shoots to up its scare factor, one multi-billion-dollar entertainment industry merger, and at least one of the movie’s stars declaring “Who knows when the fuck that’s gonna come out?” It’s enough to make us all wonder if the X-Men spin-off was ever going to see the light of day.
Cut to today, when Disney—which recently gobbled up all of the X-Men film properties as part of its acquisition of 20th Century Fox—took time out of its busy CinemaCon schedule to confirm that the Maisie Williams-starring horror-hero-hybrid was still on-track for its release. Per ScreenRant, we still don’t have an exact date for the film’s debut—it’s possible we’re still looking at the August 2019 date it was facing pre-merger—but everybody who’s been desperate to see Marvel favorites like Wolfsbane, Mirage, Sunspot, and more face off against…ghosts, maybe?…will apparently soon see their faith rewarded.
