Oliver Queen’s in the slammer, so tonight’s Arrow premiere should be cheery

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Monday, October 15. All times are Eastern.

Arrow (The CW, 8 p.m.): The CW’s flagship superhero series is getting a bit long in the tooth, but for awhile, it didn’t feel that way. The fifth season ended on a real high note, offering endless possibilities for the future, and for a period, the sixth seemed to cash in on that promise. But the abrupt exit of Michael Emerson, and some apparent scrambling to course-correct, left the back half of the season in disarray, with plot developments that were, by turns, dour, implausible, sour, silly, and just kind of dull. We’re back in “promising” territory—lots of fresh blood in the writers’ room—but the sight of Oliver Queen behind bars doesn’t really fill us with anticipation. Still, we’re looking forward to seeing where the show may be headed, and Allison Shoemaker will be dropping in on the premiere to report back on Felicity’s new hair and other equally important developments.

AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth’s History Of Horror (AMC, 12:12 a.m.): Like scary movies? So does Eli Roth. In the grand tradition of James Cameron waxing rhapsodic about sci-fi comes the another iteration of AMC’s documentary series, in which artists and enthusiasts of a genre or medium come together to celebrate that medium. This premiere episode focuses on zombies, so set your DVR or sip some coffee and count the moments until “They’re coming to get you, Barbara!” We’re guessing it pops up in the first 90 seconds.
