Olivia Rodrigo proves she has real guts by handing out emergency contraceptives on tour
Rodrigo also announced that a portion of every ticket sale from her GUTS World Tour would go to her Fun 4 Good charity for reproductive justice
Olivia Rodrigo may be all-American, but she’s certainly not a bitch. The 21-year-old “vampire” singer is proving that she has more guts than a lot of our country’s politicians by distributing free emergency contraceptives, condoms, and abortion information during the North American leg of her GUTS World Tour.
At a recent tour stop in Missouri—one of the 21 states that have banned or severely limited abortion access since Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022—concert-goers reported that they could grab a package including two boxes of Julie, a Plan B-style contraceptive that prevents pregnancy for up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. The tablets, which retail for $42.44 online, were distributed up by the Missouri Abortion Fund, which posted, “It’s brutal out here in Missouri, but we are here for abortion access and [sic] hand out Plan B” on Twitter/X today in honor of Rodrigo’s SOUR opening track. From the attached fan-shared photo, the package also seemed to contain flyers in Rodrigo’s signature purple with the slogan “Funding abortion? It’s a good idea, right?” along with a QR code linking back to the Missouri Abortion Fund’s website.
The Fund’s presence wasn’t a one-time thing. Before the first stop on her tour, Rodrigo announced in an Instagram video that she had started a foundation called Fund 4 Good, which “will directly support community based nonprofits that champion things like girls’ education, support reproductive rights, and prevent gender based violence.” The singer said she will contribute a portion of every ticket sale to the fund and announced that the National Network of Abortion Funds would have a dedicated table to provide resources and information to fans at every one of her North American stops.
This isn’t the first time Rodrigo has spoken out about this issue. Inviting Lily Allen to join her onstage during the Glastonbury Festival in 2022 right after the Supreme Court’s decision, Rodrigo told the massive assembled crowd that she was “heartbroken about what happened in America yesterday. I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this.”
“I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have shown us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a shit about freedom,” the pop star continued, before the two singers launched into a powerful rendition of Allen’s “Fuck You.” “The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you!”
