On second thought, that Hansel And Gretel sequel will be a TV series
That famous pair of cinematic witch-hunting siblings might be getting downgraded from a gingerbread house to a gingerbread condo—Deadline reports Paramount is scrapping plans for a sequel to Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters to develop a TV series instead. Although the studio recently announced that it had found a director for the film in Bruno Aveillan, it’s now going to go the Jack Ryan route and bring the adventures to the small screen.
Despite making only $55 million domestically—and consisting mostly of dour expressions and studded leather—Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters went on to gross $170 million overseas. So Deadline posits that Paramount sees more possibilities, i.e., revenue, in an episodic forma. (We guess the studio hasn’t heard about how things turned out for that Minority Report series.) There’s currently no word on whether the film’s stars, Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, will make the switch to TV, but Gary Sanchez Productions is still on board.
