One Direction’s Harry Styles joins Christopher Nolan’s next movie

Christopher Nolan’s movies are generally pretty popular, even if some people think the power of love is simply too sci-fi for a movie where a dad literally communicates with his daughter through the walls of reality, but they’ve never been “teen girls weeping in the audience” popular. They’ve never been boy band popular. That, presumably, is why Nolan has made a slightly unconventional casting decision for his next film, a World War II action-thriller called Dunkirk. According to Deadline, Nolan has cast One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles in the film, which will tell the story of the British military’s evacuation of the eponymous French city in the ‘40s.

Styles, who is best known for often having weird hair and for being the most talented member of One Direction, will be joining actual actors Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh in the film, and Dunkirk will be his feature film acting debut. The Deadline report doesn’t have any specific details about Styles’ character, but it “is not believed to be a leading role.” That should at least be a relief to the other members of One Direction, who must be sick of Styles constantly having leading roles in their songs and videos (due to him being the most talented).
