MTV celebrated MTV last night with its annual Video Music Awards, giving out moonmen statues to the sole handful of artists recognized as working musicians by the network. Rihanna won the night’s biggest award, receiving Video Of The Year for “We Found Love,” in addition to an earful of One Direction from Katy Perry. But the British boy band won more awards than any other act, including nods for Best Pop Video and the dubious-sounding Most Share-Worthy Video for “What Makes You Beautiful.” Demi Lovato nabbed a similarly questionable award—Video With a Message—for her song, “Skyscraper.” A list of all the winners is below.
Many of these artists also performed—including Frank Ocean, who played a stripped-down version of his song “Thinking ‘Bout You,” which stood in stark contrast to some of the night’s more whiz-bang performances, like Pink hanging from a trapeze to sing “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” and the spectacle of Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj’s “Girl On Fire,” which featured actual, real-life gymnastics from U.S. Olympian Gabby Douglas.
