Optimist George R.R. Martin thinks The Winds Of Winter may be out this year

At this point we should know better than to get enthusiastic about any news regarding the release of The Winds Of Winter. And yet George R.R. Martin has stoked the flames of anticipation on his LiveJournal, saying he thinks the latest tome in A Song Of Ice And Fire will be out this year. Of course, he then qualified that by adding, in a coy parenthetical, that he “thought the same thing last year.”

Martin issued this statement in response to a fan who asked for any little scrap of information on how the book is coming. “Not done yet, but I’ve made progress,” Martin explained. “But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now.” It’s probably fair to wager that this man may very well be toying with the emotions of his dedicated devotees, knowing that they will eagerly devour every word he utters. So set aside time to read The Winds Of Winter in 2017. Or don’t. It’s really anyone’s guess.
