Oscar Isaac in talks to play Timothée Chalamet's dad in Dune

Denis Villeneuve once said that his new Dune adaptation will be Star Wars for adults,” and now he’s making good on that declaration by casting an actual Star Wars guy to play a father—which is arguably one of the most adult jobs that a person can have. According to Variety, Oscar Isaac is in talks to join Dune as Leto Atreides, the father of Timothée Chalamet’s lead protagonist Paul Atreides. In Dune, the Atreides family is tasked with running the desert planet Arrakis, home of a very important space-spice, until they’re inevitably betrayed by the dastardly Harkonnen family. The elder Atreides doesn’t get to do a ton in the story, betrayals being what they are, but we have previously heard that Villeneuve’s movie would only cover half of the first Dune book, so Oscar Isaac might stick around for more of the action than you’d think.

Assuming these negotiations do work out, Isaac will be joining recent cast additions Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgård—both of whom are playing Harkonnens—so they probably won’t get along too well in the movie.
