Oscar Isaac to play Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse
Variety reports that Oscar Issac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has been officially cast as Apocalypse, the antagonist in X-Men: Apocalypse. Returning X-Men director Singer promises that the on-screen destruction bar will be raised, suggesting that the scorched-earth dystopia of X-Men: Days Of Future Past could be seen more as urban redevelopment, rather than actual destruction.
“There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle,” Singer said, relieving destruction-porn aficionados everywhere. He also indicated that Apocalypse will be set in the ’80s, so we can expect younger X-Men (possibly sporting Reebok Pumps, shoulder pads, and Alf T-shirts).
Within the context of Marvel Comics, Apocalypse has been depicted as the original mutant, using his godlike powers to bend humanity to his will.
20th Century Fox will release Apocalypse on May 27, 2016.
