Ready Player One imagines a bleak, ashen future where humanity has stopped trying to solve problems and is just trying to survive them, escaping despair by plugging into The Oasis, an expansive VR world that provides ample opportunity for reinvention and wish fulfillment. But is the movie a proper escape from our own dystopian world?
