For this week’s edition of Film Club, A.V. Club film editor A.A. Dowd and staff critic Ignatiy Vishnevetsky take a look at The Mummy, an overstuffed (and under-performing) attempt to launch a franchise around the movie monsters associated with Universal Studios’ Golden Age heyday—a film that cant’ seem to decide whether it wants to be an stunt-heavy Tom Cruise vehicle, a PG-13 horror comedy, or just another dull, formulaic blockbuster.
