Our first look at Justice League’s Mera is as colorful as you’d expect
As far as we can recall, nobody ever unfairly judged directors in the old days for making their films in that ridiculously limiting “black and white” aesthetic, so maybe it’s unfair of us to be so critical of Zack Snyder and his apparent disgust for colors. Perhaps Hollywood is moving back towards a more simplistic style, and Snyder is just on the forefront of this trend. If that’s the case—and we have no reason to doubt that it is—then everybody who mocks Snyder’s overly brown and gray films is nothing but a classless philistine who doesn’t even recognize good art when they see it.
So, with all that established, let’s take a look at the first image of Amber Heard as Atlantean queen Mera from Snyder’s Justice League:
As you can see, she’s intimidatingly stepping out of a gray body of water, and she’s wearing what looks like a more armor-like take on her traditional comic-book leotard. It even has the subtlest hint of green as a nod to the people who still demand the childish stimulation of colors, but it’s primarily a mature, unflinching gray. This image reveal came from IGN, which also shared a concept art video that includes a few notable differences from the actual photo—specifically a cape and the comparatively outrageous use of color:
Justice League will be released on November 17, 2017.
