Our Lady Peace: Clumsy

The Canadian band Our Lady Peace scored a substantial modern-rock hit in 1994 with "Starseed," but the dissolution of the group's old record label has delayed the release of Clumsy. Which doesn't bode well for what was already a fairly forgettable band anyway: Our Lady Peace's debut full-length, Naveed, was strictly Live-by-numbers, emotion-drenched radio filler. And, well, so is Clumsy. There are some darkly personal moments, like "4am," that transcend singer Raine Maida's mewling howls, but for the most part it fits comfortably into the interchangeably listenable world of bands with tortured spirits, adenoidal voices, and distorted guitars. Expect to hear it on the radio for the next few months, but don't expect to recognize it as anything distinguishable from, well, anything else.
