Outlander fires up the ol’ standing stone circle for some more time-travel shenanigans

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, December 16. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Outlander (Starz, 8 p.m.): Last season, Claire (recent Golden Globe nominee Caitriona Balfe) once again traveled through a circle of standing stones in Scotland, popping out in the 18th century in hopes of finding her long-lost husband, Jamie (Sam Heughan). One catch, though: That decision separated her, seemingly forever, from Brianna (Sophie Skelton), the college-aged daughter Jamie had never met. Well, now it’s Brianna’s turn to touch a giant hunk of stone and get zipped through time like she’s being sucked through a curly straw, on the hunt for her homesteading parents.

She’s not the only one. Roger (Richard Rankin), a kind-hearted historian who, it must be said, was quite recently a real dick to Brianna, is understandably concerned that a college student from the early 1970s might run into some trouble in the past, so he’s hot on her heels and headed for the stones himself. Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya has the Huey Lewis all cued up, and will recap whatever time-travel hijinks may ensue.

Regular coverage

Escape At Dannemora (Showtime, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

Springsteen On Broadway (Netflix, 3: 01 a.m.): Bruuuuuuuuce!! Would it surprise you to know that Springsteen—who is almost 70—did more than 225 performances of his solo show, the aptly titled Springsteen On Broadway? You might even say that he was born to run eight shows a week.

Springsteen’s “long and noisy prayer” closed last night, and a record of that Tony-winning achievement will be up on Netflix within hours. What a time to be alive.
