Owen Wilson may play a very Owen Wilson kind of guy in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice

Continuing a quest to secure all of Hollywood’s shaggiest actors for its shaggy detective story, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice is in talks to add Owen Wilson to its cast, possibly joining the previously mentioned Benicio Del Toro and Joaquin Phoenix. The Wrap first broke the news that Wilson could be lured to Anderson’s adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel—perhaps partly out of genuine interest, partly out of confusing him for Wes Anderson—with Cigarettes & Red Vines later quoting a source from the production saying Wilson is wanted for the role of Coy Harlingen, “a surf-saxophone player for a band called The Boards.” It’s an important part in the story, and one well-suited to Wilson—because really, just look at him and tell us you don’t hear strains of surf-saxophone mysteriously emanating from your inner ear. Frankly, we’re not even sure what a “surf-saxophone” is, but were it a person, it would be Owen Wilson.
