Pacific Rim: Uprising teaser reminds us we’re just puny humans
We’ll have a flurry of updates over the next couple of days on just about every sci-fi and comic book property out there, thanks to San Diego Comic-Con. Part of that bounty is this first teaser for Steven S. DeKnight’s Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to Guillermo Del Toro’s kaiju-stomping robot movie that became a stealth hit. There’s nothing subtle about this preview, though, which is a kind of recruitment video for the jaeger army–sorry, Uprising.
A narrator enumerates the many ways in which the jaeger is superior to a human—it’s bigger and stronger, with a heart that burns brighter (which sound like the lyrics to a song that would win American Idol, but we digress). Everything about the jaeger is better than you; it can save the world and remember your mom’s birthday. That last part’s just our guess. Of course, the jaeger can’t do anything unless a tiny carbon-based life form enters it first, so we can feel good about that, at least. As Jake Pentecost, John Boyega calls on you to join the uprising. So what are you waiting for? Oh, that’s right—the February 23, 2018 release date.
