Does Apple TV+ have its next big crowd-pleaser ready to go? With Ted Lasso’s end and Severance only beginning production on season two now, the streaming platform is ready to hit us with another seemingly perfect watercooler TV show with Palm Royale. The ‘60s-set dramedy hails from Dead To Me and The Eyes Of Tammy Faye creator Abe Sylvia.

For starters, Palm Royale boasts an impressive ensemble, including leading ladies Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, and Carol Burnett. During the Television Critics Association’s 2024 winter press tour, Apple TV+ debuted the show’s trailer, and honestly, it looks like a mesh of Desperate Housewives and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in the most interesting ways.

As seen in the footage, Maxine Simmons (Wiig, debuting quite the Southern accent) is an underdog who moves to Florida. The former beauty pageant queen is frothing at the mouth to gain entry into the Palm Royale club. She wants to hit it off with the rich ladies, including Evelyn (Janney) and Dinah (Bibb), to, hopefully, find meaning in her life. She’ll do anything to achieve this, including breaking and entering. Or maybe even lying about her family background? But how far will Maxine go to be accepted into this elite community?

Taking place in 1969, Palm Royale tackles themes of sacrifice and what it takes for an outsider to belong—well, at least in high society. It’s clear Evelyn is onto her, but Maxine makes an unexpected friend in Linda (Dern), a feminist hippie. The trailer also teases Maxine is up to no good, crime-wise, and might be getting help from the club’s employee, Robert (Ricky Martin). The show’s cast also includes Kaia Gerber, Josh Lucas, Amber Chardae Robinson, and Mindy Cohn. Bruce Dern will appear in a guest role.

Season one of Palm Royale premieres on March 20 with three episodes. The remaining seven will be released weekly.
