Paramount is developing a Galaxy Quest TV show

According to some sci-fi fans who like to frame their opinions in clever ways, Galaxy Quest is the best Star Trek movie ever made. That’s because it’s not only pretty good, but if you make a few cosmetic changes—and replace all of the actors and rewrite the script—it could easily become a Star Trek movie. The story is about a group of actors who used to star on a hit TV show about people trekking through the stars, and now that the show is done, their lives are consumed by endless conventions, obsessive fans, and constant recitations of their beloved catchphrases. Then, actual aliens show up needing help, and the group has to figure how to become an actual starship crew.

Now, by Grabthar’s hammer, Paramount Television has announced that it’s developing a new Galaxy Quest TV series. We don’t know if any of the film’s stars—which include Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tony Shalhoub—will return for the show (probably not), and we also don’t know if the show will re-tell the story of the movie (probably) or act as a sequel (which would be less interesting). Whatever the show is about and whoever is in it, we just want to hear more people talk about Grabthar’s hammer.
