This morning, news broke that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are done. This afternoon, Paramount debuted a new TV spot for Pitt’s upcoming film Allied. We’d say, “what a coincidence,” except, who are we kidding? This is probably not just a case of good timing at all. It’s marketing at its shadiest. It’s a subtweet of a promo.
Anyway, this footage adds a more explicit twist to Robert Zemeckis’ WWII tale of a French Resistance fighter (Marion Cotillard) and intelligence officer (Pitt) who shoot guns, have some sweet dust storm car sex, and get married. At the end of this teaser, Pitt’s Max Vatan is given some mysterious information about his wife, Cotillard’s Marianne Beausejour. Cut to a domestic scene: “Hey, what about my kiss?” she says ominously, as he examines her with an incredulous look in his eyes.
To address the elephant crouched over there in the corner: Yes, The New York Post has already reported that Jolie discovered that Pitt and Cotillard were having an affair on the set of this movie. Who knows whether or not that‘s actually the case, but expect Allied to be thoroughly dissected as a result.
