Paramount may shoot a John Hughes screenplay
Last night John Hughes received his own personal tribute at the Academy Awards. Now the late writer-director might have a previously unproduced screenplay in development.
Acoording to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has expressed interest in producing Hughes’ Grisbys Go Broke, about a wealthy Chicago family that loses its riches and is forced to move to the boonies. The studio says they would hope to make it into a family comedy, with Alice In Wonderland producer Joe Roth attached.
Hughes and Paramount’s professional relationship produced some of the filmmaker’s most admired 1980s films, such as Pretty In Pink, Planes Trains And Automobiles, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Hughes’ last feature was 2008’s Drillbit Taylor, which was partially re-written by Seth Rogen and Kristofor Brown. Hughes’ credit in the film appears under the Dumas-inspired pseudonym Edmond Dantes.
