Thanks to its strong showing on the festival circuit, The Witch has become one of the most anticipated horror movies of the year—so much so, that distributor A24 has moved up its release date. And where previous trailers played up the film’s period atmosphere, this one uses some thoroughly modern quick editing techniques to convey the sense of mounting paranoia that drives the film’s plot. Family goat/possible agent of Satan Black Phillip plays a more prominent role in this preview, as does the disturbing sense that, amid the wild accusations and paranoid delusions thatare consuming young Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her family, something truly evil is waiting to be born.
The Witch will be released in limited theaters on February 19.
