As reported by Deadline, Parenthood‘s Joy Bryant will be the “co-lead” in ABC’s drama pilot The Advocate. Kim Raver (Grey’s Anatomy, Revolution) will be the other co-lead, which probably means they work just as hard as a solo lead, but they have to share a desk or something. As we said back in February, The Advocate is based on the life of former talent agent Byrdie Lifson-Pompan, who—after doctors failed to realize she had a brain tumor—left her career to become a The Advocate for people who need help figuring out the (in Deadline‘s words) “chaotic and ever-changing maze that is modern medicine.” Bryant will play “a brilliant doctor” who helps Kim Raver’s character open up a healthcare consulting company. Given her role on Parenthood, she’ll probably stay away from other people’s annoying drama, and then pop in to suggest that Dax Shepard do something totally reasonable, and then he’ll ignore her advice, and then eventually realize she was right and apologize. Of course, as far as we know, Dax Shepard isn’t on The Advocate, so she’ll have to replace him with the HealthCare.gov marketplace—the Dax Shepard of websites.
