Parents condemn/promote American Horror Story as “unbelievably explicit”

Taking a break from their regular hand-wringing duties to dish out some sizzling ad copy for FX, watchdog group The Parents Television Council has denounced American Horror Story for its “unbelievably explicit combination of sex and violence.” The group called out the various orgies and violent sexual acts in last week’s premiere, specifically, apparently operating on the assumption that telling a bunch of people about debauched, blood-soaked sex on TV is a sure-fire way to get them to turn it off.

The group isn’t trying to aim the mobs at creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk specifically, though, but at their advertisers, including Subway. (Suggested new motto: “Eat as fresh as a drill tip being forcibly inserted into the anus of New Girl’s Max Greenfield!”) They also reminded cable-purchasing readers that they were partially responsible for funding “the most vile and shocking content” the group has ever seen, via their cable subscription fees.

American Horror Story wasn’t the only Murphy show to earn the PTC’s surprisingly alluring censure; Scream Queens was also called out for its “graphic decapitations and discussions of necrophilia in the family hour… all sponsored by McDonald’s.” (It’s like that old jingle goes, “Ba-da-ba-ba-ba… Decapitate!”)
