Paris pornographers meet a dildo switchblade in the first trailer for queer giallo Knife + Heart

Yann Gonzalez’s Knife + Heart is the kind of arty, nasty genre experiment that’s able to play at both Sundance and Fantastic Fest. As such, we caught it twice last year, with both of our critics lauding Gonzalez’s queer spin on giallo for its red light district thrills and emphasis on community. Now, you can catch a trailer for the film ahead of its U.S. premiere in March.

Set in 1979, Knife + Heart centers around a community of Paris pornographers and the masked killer—“a kind of leather-daddy Leatherface,” we observed—that uses a dildo switchblade (!) to menace them. In the midst of it all, an adult film producer played by Vanessa Paradis longs for her editor and ex-lover (Kate Moran). The flick’s retro vibes, meanwhile, come courtesy of M83's original score, not to mention the 35mm film on which it was shot.

Knife + Heart will make you simultaneously shriek and blush when it slices into New York on March 15 and L.A. on March 22. A wider release will follow.
