Patti Smith guest stars on Law And Order: Criminal Intent this weekend
“Godmother of Punk” Patti Smith’s acting career has mostly been limited to the little-seen Jon Favreau film The Big Empty, voicing a baby in The Rugrats Movie, and pretending not to be nauseous when people like KT Tunstall name her as an influence. But this Sunday will see Smith in one of her first real dramatic roles, playing “Columbia University mythology professor Cleo Alexander” in an episode of Law And Order: Criminal Intent. TV Guide has a clip from her appearance, in which Vincent D’Onofrio reaches out to her for help with a case inspired by Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark and its many injuries. Smith’s character, naturally, schools D’Onofrio in the myth of Icarus—“my favorite metaphor for failed ambition.” So yeah, the next time she sees Bono it might be kind of awkward. [via Pitchfork]
