Patton Oswalt and Buffy’s Spike land on Caprica
And the Joss Whedon/Battlestar Galactica actor trading continues… Entertainment Weekly was all over the news that James Marsters, former member of the Scooby Gang and Angel Investigations, will be boarding a ship to Caprica this winter. Marsters is best known for his role as Spike on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, where he became a fan favorite for his scene-stealing comic relief and occasional vampire villainy. In the new Syfy series Caprica, a spin-off prequel to parent series Battlestar Galactica, Marsters will play terrorist leader Barnabus Greeley “for a sizable arc.” (For those who don’t know, Caprica will tell the story of Joseph Adama, Bill Adama’s father, and the events leading to the destruction of the Twelve Colonies, which is when the Battlestar reboot began.) Supposedly Marsters' character will be “driven by desires both moralistic and carnal.” Aren’t we all?
This is just the latest Caprica casting news to hit the web. Word spread earlier this week that comic Patton Oswalt, best known for TV’s The King Of Queens and for voicing Remy in Pixar’s Ratatouille, will also be joining the Caprica cast in a recurring role as Baxter Sarno, a Caprican talk-show host. Oswalt can also be seen as the lead in the upcoming Big Fan, the directorial debut from The Wrestler scribe – and former Onion editor-in-chief – Robert Siegel. He's also got a Comedy Central special coming up on August 23, and CD/DVD a couple of days after that. Go Patton!
