Patton Oswalt and Paul Rudd are animated fame-seekers in the NSFW Nerdland trailer
Adult animation—as in animated films aimed at mature audiences, not just creepy hentai hamsters—is making a comeback in the U.S. There was Hell And Back last year, and Sausage Party is hitting theaters this summer. Another entry to that growing list of mature cartoons is Nerdland, which finds Patton Oswalt and Paul Rudd voicing a writer and an actor, respectively, who are desperate to become famous in Hollywood before they turn 30.
The trailer is full of bizarre, almost surreal animation reminiscent of Liquid Television and lots of irreverent humor. The film was directed by Chris Pynorski, who previously worked on Metalocalypse, and written by Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven). In addition to Oswalt and Rudd, other voices for the action-packed film include Hannibal Buress, Mike Judge, Molly Shannon, and Kate Micucci. Be aware that the above trailer is red-band and certainly NSFW with lots of expletives, animated nudity, and Rip Van Winkle seemingly going to town with a shotgun in a strip club.
Nerdland premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 14, but doesn’t currently have a distributor or release date.
