Patton Oswalt + Star Wars action figures + Russ Meyer = (just click)
In the world of geek mathematics, sometimes the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. To wit: Patton Oswalt has commissioned a series of action figures that combine the geek-friendly worlds of Star Wars and exploitation master Russ Meyer, creating some sort of pop-culture awesomeness vortex. The creator of the figures, a guy named Sillof, has done incredibly detailed series in the past, combining Star Wars with the steampunk and samurai worlds, among others. Sillof was an inspiration for Oswalt's character in Young Adult (which you should see if you haven't, dammit), who was also a fan of customizing figures. The Oswalt-commissioned series is called Faster, Empire! Strike! Strike! (after Meyer's sexy-n-violent classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!), and it flips the gender roles in Star Wars, reinterpreting Darth Vader as Darla Vade, etc. And no, you can't buy these, but you can see the whole series right here. Oswalt tells us he's already excited about commissioning another collection, saying that John Hughes' The Jedi Club is one possibility. Oswalt posted a short essay on his site about the figures here, too. Below, meet the new Boba Fett.
