Paul Feig in talks to work with another funny woman

Spy and Ghostbusters director Paul Feig might be adding another name to his big list of funny female leading ladies: TV star Mindy Kaling. Variety reports that Feig is in talks to direct an untitled film project written by Kaling, centered on the world of late-night TV talk and described as a mashup of “The Devil Wears Prada and Broadcast News.” Emma Thompson will co-star.

Feig and Kaling have a long association with each other: Both made names for themselves on NBC’s The Office, Feig as a director and producer, and Kaling as narcissistic time bomb Kelly Kapoor. Since the show ended, Kaling has been focused on her Mindy Project, currently on Hulu, while Feig branched out into film with Bridesmaids. Kaling’s been making a similar push into theaters in recent months: She had a major part as Disgust in last year’s Inside Out, and was recently cast in Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time. She’s also part of the titular all-woman cast of Ocean’s Eight (a movie which actually kind of sounds like a Feig project, but which is actually being directed by Gary Ross).
