Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgård to star in Duncan Jones’ next film

According to Variety, Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgård are set to star in Mute, a sci-fi thriller from Moon and Warcraft director Duncan Jones. The film will be set in Berlin 40 years from now, with the city full of fighting immigrants and clashing East vs. West ideologies. Skarsgård’s character will be a mute bartender who is “looking for a woman who has disappeared.” The only clue he can find is “an odd pair of American surgeons,” with one of them being played by Rudd. That premise doesn’t sound especially sci-fi-y, so there’s probably a lot going on here that Jones isn’t talking about.

However, he is talking about how he has been “working towards making Mute for 12 years now,” and that he’s “thrilled” to finally have a chance at filming “this utterly unique film.” Jones co-wrote the script, so he might not be the most trustworthy source on whether or not its “utterly unique,” but as the guy behind Moon he might know what he’s talking about. Mute will begin production in March.
