Paul Scheer to talk about movies that are actually good on new podcast
In the podcast world, comedian Paul Scheer is best known as one of the hosts of How Did This Get Made?, a show in which he dismantles famously terrible and appropriately obscure movies with his co-hosts June Diane Raphael and Jason Mantzoukas. A man can only watch stuff like Gamer or Vampire Academy for so long, though, and now Scheer has announced a new podcast that will also allow him to watch movies that are actually good.
Titled Unspooled, the show will be co-hosted by Scheer and The Canon’s Amy Nicholson, and it will be based around the two of them going through the American Film Institute’s 100 greatest movies of all time (a list that doesn’t include Gamer) to discuss—as a press release says—”what makes these movies so special, how they hold up in 2018, and if they truly are the best films ever made.” The show will launch on May 17.
Unspooled is coming from Midroll Media, the parent company of podcast empire Earwolf, and the company also announced that comedian Michael Ian Black will be getting a new show as well. Titled Obscure, Black’s podcast sounds slightly more high-concept: As explained in the aforementioned press release, Obscure will involve Black and guests from the comedy world offering commentary on “every line” of Thomas Hardy’s 1895 novel Jude The Obscure—a book that is definitely not a comedy. Obscure will launch on June 8.
